Devin Nunes, Republican of California, is the most corrupt and treasonous congressman this country has produced in a few generations. He is part of the Gang of Four, a cabal of right wing Republicans doing everything in their power to discredit and destabilize the Justice Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the rule of law in this country. It includes Jim Jordan of Ohio, Mark Meadows of North Carolina and Mark Blaetz, a nasty pit bull from Florida who could use a shock collar and a rabies shot. It is all done in service of President Trump, who appears to be the most blatantly corrupt and unqualified chief executive in this country’s history. They, with others, are conspiring with the White House to distract, in any way they can, from the investigation of Trumps potential conspiracy with Russia, and by extension, Vlad Putin, to assist Trump in winning the presidency.
These are the facts. Three Russian spies operating in the New York/New Jersey area had the task of recruiting American assets(people) to get useful and potentially classified information from them to then send back to the Kremlin. The FBI found out and was able to begin a counter espionage effort and had them under surveillance back in 2015 and, unsuspecting, the 3 Russians discussed their operations and indicated they had recruited an American businessman/energy analyst who had travelled extensively to Russia and was cooperating with the Russians. This man was Carter Page, one of the prominent foreign policy advisers to the then Trump campaign. The FBI legally, through FISA warrants, signed by a federal judge, began surveilling Carter Page. Given these circumstances most reasonable Americans would expect the FBI to do just that. Thus began the Russia investigation around July of 2016, 4 months before the election, as a ranking Trump campaign official had disturbing ties to Russia’s espionage apparatus and government. This opened Pandora’s box. That original warrant had to be re-authorized every 90 days by a federal judge to remain valid. Most reasonable Americans would expect the FBI to continue to keep Carter Page under surveillance to find out exactly what he was doing with the Russians and what was the connection to the Trump campaign, and subsequently, the Trump presidency. Of the three Russians, one spent time in federal prison for espionage, the other two fled back to Mother Russia before they could be apprehended. The warrants continued to be signed and authorized once Trump became president, by Rod Rosenstein, the Deputy Attorney General and approved by a federal judge.
This is the scandal propagated by Nunes and his co-conspirators, that a legal and valid warrant was authorized by the Justice Department so they could investigate crimes against the country by Trump and his campaign surrogates and staff. They believe that getting a warrant authorized legally by a federal judge so that the FBI and CIA can thoroughly investigate potentially serious criminal behavior between a presidential campaign and our sworn enemy, they believe getting that warrant is far more scandalous than the criminal, treasonous behavior itself.
This would be similar to police detectives entering Jeffrey Dahmer’s apartment in Milwaukee, seeing him drenched in blood with body parts strewn about the apartment and in his refrigerator, sniffing the air, and then going to investigate his upstairs neighbor because they thought he might be smoking marijuana. The rule of law has been so corrupted and degraded in only a year by the current occupant of the Oval Office (I hesitate to call him my President) that it beggars the imagination. That it is happening in the most powerful and one of the most enlightened countries on the planet is truly vile and disgusting. Current Republicans do not have the courage or integrity to confront this disturbed man on his behavior. The American populace will have to be the firewall against this criminal conspiracy. We are a proud and moral people. It is time we stood up and said enough.
